2020 Poster Artist: Alex Lanier, Overwater Bungalows
Artist Alex Lanier
It all started with an ink pen. Growing up, cheap little ink pens were usually the only drawing tools laying around or in junk drawers around the house. He took these pens and drew anything that came to mind. He even copied city maps line by line on white poster boards. This quickly became Alex’s medium of choice.
His talent quickly progressed into a valuable skill set and he later got accepted into a Performing Arts high school called (Harrison School of The Arts). This was a major transitioning point for him entering the real world of art.
He is now an award winning and published Artist with a background in Architecture (FIU – School of Architecture). While still in college he worked as an Architect at (Red Design Group – Miami Based Firm). Wanting to use more of his artistic ability, he took the Architectural Visualization path at (Spine3D – Miami Based Arch Viz Studio). He later transitioned into a full-time freelance artist in Los Angeles, CA (BIG CHANGE!) While freelancing in LA, he worked for several major studios creating Concept Art, Storyboards, Event / Set Design and Architecture Illustrations.
Alex is currently a freelance Digital Artist and Sculptor creating art for clients and collectors worldwide. You can also find Alex displaying his art at some of the countries largest and well respected Art Festivals and Galleries.
(Art style and process)
His art lives in a tech infused world powered by plant life. “Plant life will ultimately out live everything and become the main source of energy for tech. My artwork explores and illustrates what this could look like.” Architecture, pop culture and vehicles are the main subjects of this artwork.
His signature b&w detailed linework and red accents allows him to clearly illustrate each concept at the highest level. He uses a digital Wacom tablet with a pressure sensitive pen for Digital inking. Ink pens, spray paint, acrylic paint, and brush pens are used for his Traditional Inking. These two techniques allow for endless possibilities.
